STORY BEHIND DHANTERAS

Different folklores tell us about the story of dhanteras and why it is celebrated. One of these stories is when King Hima's son was predicted to die due to a snake-bite on the fourth night of the marriage. Knowing this, the crown-prince's wife collected all of Her ornaments and gold in a heap. Now, to save her husband, she kept narrating stories and sang different songs to her husband to prevent himself from falling asleep.
When God of Death Yamraj came in the form of serpent to take the soul of the prince, he was binded by the extreme shine of gold and was melted hearing the beautiful voices and melodious songs of the wife.
Since then, the thirteenth day of Krishna paksha of kartika month is celebrated as Dhanteras.
