Why is Dhanteras Celebrated, Complete Story. Happy Dhanteras Pics
The festival comes on the month of Kartika (Oct-Nov) and marks the first day of five day long Diwali Festival. It is celebrated on the thirteenth day of the dark fortnight, falls in the Krisna Paksha of Hindu month.
The word "Dhan-teras" is a combination of two words, 'Dhan' meaning 'wealth' and 'teras' which means the thirteenth day. Hence, the day is celebrated to worship Godess Laxmi to provide wealth and prosperity.
The one day festival is said as an auspicious occasion for the purchase of gold and silver, and is believed that investing in these things along with utensils will bring prosperity, good luck, and happiness in the complete family and it is good for any business as well.
